MERCORA RECEIVES $5M EQUITY FOR P2P RADIO: Red Herring, TJ's weblog

It's always good to see continued VC attention in digital entertainment technology. It's a risky strategy to found a business based on satisfying someone (the entertainment biz) who isn't the customer. You have to spend a lot of resources to define the product space, educate the market, differentiate your product, and find a receptive market niche. Of course a few mil can solve a few problems.

I'm not keen on P2P radio. It's a bastard hybrid with a weak USP and limited market segment. The end game for Mercora is to quickly establish leadership of this awkward space and flip itself to a major online portal or music retailer where it's unique technology will complementlinks regular Internet streaming or radio.
