Music is increasingly democratized ... and thus commoditized. It's always been around through tape dupes. It advanced with the Internet. Web downloads made it easy to promote both legal and illegal files. Technological evolution accelerates this with CD dupes, iPod copying, and P2P.
The music industry's $10-15/month price range for subscriptions is a relic of the past and not sustainable. Case in point - Yahoo. They launched their Yahoo! Music Unlimited Subscription Service at an introductory price of $5/month and $60/year (along with dollar downloads). The introduction is gone and the price is only marginally higher now at $7/month and $60/year.
I expect we'll see Google Unlimited Music (GUM) at $29 per year.
