Virus defense - My P2P software was hacked

Filed in archive Privacy & Security by Marc on December 24, 2005

Digital Music News analyst Richard Menta combines a Bit Torrent hack that downloads movies and a successful virus defense in a British child pornographylinks case to posit a viable consumer copyright infringement lawsuit defense.

Menta writes "A widespread dissemination of the hack would pose number of problems for major studios and labels, as it sets up the scenario where attack victims could be falsely accused of file-sharing and sued. Worse, it could set up a 'Virus Defense' in the US, in which anyone who is sued can simply blame all illicit download activities on the exploit."
