Government
by Jordan Grodecki on December 6, 2007

America has been looking into ways to crack down on pirates further, and have come up with a new peice of legislation which they want to make law. "Prioritizing Resources and Organization of Intellectual Property Act of 2007" is The name of the act, and despite the fancy name including nothing about punishment; the description certainly shows how seriously the government is taking the problem of piracy.
Some of the radical parts of the act seem to be setting up a new federal agency for the sole purpose of chasing pirates as well as pretty much unlimited fines for file sharers, over the already accessive $10,000 a song that has been banded about before now.
Any computer hardware seized by the police will also be sold, and it seems like it doesn't matter if you are guilty or not, by the looks of this sentance "The process is called civil asset forfeiture, and typically the owner does not need to be found guilty of a crime for his property to be taken.".
How is it fair that they take your property if you are not guilty of any crime?
