Government
by Jordan Grodecki on February 13, 2008

We reported a fairly long time ago that France was planning on cutting off users' who download pirated material internet if they were caught. According to a new UK based report, there is plans for a similer system for the United Kingdom.
Once again a strikes system is planned, with the first strike being an email warning (how do they propose to get the email addresses of people they suspect of downloading material?). Next, a suspension of the internet service, and finally a termination of the contract with the users ISP.
Unfortunatly this sounds like another one of those rather mad plans that the government, or any agency would not be able to put into action because it is impossible to punish for something that can't be proved. It's seriously difficult to prove someone downloaded something, which is why trials including the RIAA take a long time.
We'll see.
