The Theft of P2P.com
Filed in archive Legal on August 7, 2009
On July 30th, Daniel Goncalves was arrested in his New Jersey home for stealing the domain name p2p.com - it's the first ever arrest for the theft of a domain name in the United States.

"Goncalves allegedly hacked his way into P2P's Go Daddy account and transferred the domain name to his own account... [he] allegedly sold the domain to Mark Madsen, a forward for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers, who did not know that the domain was stolen," writes WHIR's Justin Lee.
"Goncalves is now out of jail after posting $60,000 bond," writes DNN's Adam Strong. "He will be facing at least two court cases soon... the NJ prosecutors intend to push forward with the criminal case and press for a felony conviction."
