Sweden Demands Real Evidence

Sweden Demands Real Evidence

The Swedish Court of Appeal ruled that a consumer's IP address, typically the only evidence provided in P2P consumer copyright infringement lawsuits, is insufficient proof of illegal activity. The ruling overturned Västmanland District Court's fine of 16,000 kronor (about $2,000).

The decision leaves the detection of infringing files on the defendant's computer as the only reliable way to prove guilt.
