Sun's Wet DRreaM
Filed in archive Technology by Marc on August 24, 2005

Sun announced their DReaM Project, an open source Digital rights management
platform, that is being used at the
Open Media Commons. Some commentators are calling Sun's DReaM all wet, saying it is too little too late and self-serving. But the same could have been said of Java and Mozilla.
This is an excellent move on Sun's part to carve out another open source niche for itself. . Open source is good for consumers. Choice and competitive DRM systems are also good, especially when Microsoft is the dominant market leader.
Content providers like artists need tools that are easy to use to wrap their files with ads or required payments. They don't have such products. Perhaps Sun's DReaM can provide it.
