Stop the Ringtone Insanity

Stop the Ringtone Insanity

Are you spending $2 or $3 dollars for a 10 second ringtone when you can get the full 3 minute song for much less ($.69 at Real Music Store)? For a song you already own? Plus you have to buy a new ringtone every time you get tired of the old one or switch phones.

You're paying for the convenience of having the ringtone automatically sent to your phone. Ringtones are now a monster business for the entertainment industry. But it's not your only option.

Next time, do it yourself. Read Wired's ringtone making guide. You'll need a cell phone that supports MP3 ringtones, a CD or MP3 of the song, and audio editing software. Your wallet will thank you!
