Stanford Starts Three Strikes Rule
stanford universitylinks has created a DMCA policy to comply with RIAA demands that it control its students. The University claims that responding to RIAA complaints takes up the time of three full-time employees.

Stanford makes no attempt to validate the accuracy of RIAA claims or support its students' rights. While the school is playing RIAA patsy, the policy is relatively forgiving. Unlike regular consumers who are typically forced to take a $5,000 settlement, Stanford students merely must remove copyrighted content on their first complaint.

On the second complaint a student is disconnected from the network and charged $500 to reconnect after copyrighted content is removed. On the third complaint the fine is $1,000 and the disconnect may be permanent.
