Edward Hasbrouck, author of The Practical NOMAD, recounts a sad story of U.S. Government paranoia. He was retained by police at Dulles Airport. When he tried to access his files through the Freedom of Information Act they classified clearly public information, such as press releases.
When asked if emails had been received a government contact said "I got your e-mail. I don't think arguing with you on these points is productive". Translation: It's easier to handle if I just classify the matter as secret.
Says this writer, there is no responsibolity in secrecy.
