BitTorrent and Oversi have announced plans to work together on an integrated solution to optimize P2P traffic across ISP networks.
"The companies partnered to enable the BitTorrent client application to communicate with oversi's NetEnhancer network management platform in a way that will allow them to more efficiently choose peers," explains Contentinople's Ryan Lawler. "Because Oversi's NetEnhancer is helping to push peers that are closer to the client, the end result is less congestion on the network end and faster downloads on the client side."
"BitTorrent and other file-sharing services have been accused of hogging too much of the Internet's bandwidth," writes AppScout's Chloe Albanesius. "Comcast last year was accused of blocking access to P2P sites like BitTorrent, but while the cable provider admitted to delaying file-sharing sites because of bandwidth concerns, it denied ever blocking them."
"The continuing efforts in this area from both P2P developers and ISPs like Comcast are an encouraging sign that detente can be reached in the P2P wars, at least when it comes to bandwidth concerns," writes Ars Technica's Nate Anderson.
