Following a Dutch court's ruling in August of this year, P2P site Mininova has gone legit.
"Mininova was by any measure one of the most popular — if not the most popular — torrent sites on the web, clocking 633 million page views in August and serving more than 10 billion torrents since being launched in early 2005," notes NewTeeVee's Janko Roettgers.
"Mininova had to comply with a court ruling from three months ago, which ordered the site to remove all the links to illegal content," writes PC World's Daniel Ionescu. "Removing all illegal torrents from Mininova would mainly leave the site without content. Mininova used to link to several popular categories of copyrighted files, such as TV rips of U.S. prime-time shows (Heroes, Stargate Universe, Fringe, etc.) and the latest music releases from popular artists (Jay Z, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, and others)."
"Mininova has not been totally shut down, however," notes The Inquirer's Ed Berridge. "It will now only host a limited 'featured content' service, which offers legally licensed files."
