ITV Attracting Billions of Dollars
AT&T is expected spend $4.5 billion for its U-Verse IPTV service in the next two years. U-Verse is offered as an integrated offering to compete against cable companies with Internet, telephonelinks, and cable TV. AT&T, which just started marketing the service in the past year, has 20,000 U-Verse subscribers. The company hopes to land U-Verse in 18 million homes.

Verizon Communications' FiOS TV service has been available longer. FiOS currently added 141,000 new subscribers in the first quarter for a total of 348,000 customers. Verizon estimated it will spend $18 billion between 2004 and 2010 to build out its data fiber network for FiOS.
