Number one is South Korea, while the U.S. lags countries such as Canada and Belgium. The report ranks countries on three primary factors - broadband penetration, average broadband speed and broadband price.
South Korea topped broadband penetration with access available to 90% of the population. The U.S. broadband adoption rate of 51% was average among all countries. South Korea, which has widely deployed fiber, topped the average speed at 45 MB/s. The U.S. average speed of 5 MB/s was below average. The U.S. price of $3 per 1 MB/s bandwidth was better than most countries but not even close to Japan's price of $.27.
