Fun Friday: Bound By Law, The Comic

Fun Friday: Bound By Law, The Comic

TALES FROM THE PUBLIC DOMAIN: BOUND BY LAW? is published by The Study of the Public Domain program at Duke University Law School Center. The comic book illustrates copyright law, including the difference between fair use and copyright infringement.

The comic book follows the heroine, documentary filmmaker Akiko, as she makes a movie and navigates the complex world of copyright in all its many, difficult, and often painful forms.

The book is $6 in hardcopy, and dare I say, free to download the digital version. It's available under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license.

One Response to “Fun Friday: Bound By Law, The Comic”

  1. Bound By Law riffs expertly on classic comic styles, from the Crypt Keeper to Mad Magazine, superheros to Understanding Comics, and lays out a sparkling, witty, moving and informative story about how the eroded public domain has made documentary filmmaking into a minefield.
