Founder Sez Fewer Illegal Files on Pirate Bay Than on YouTube

The Pirate Bay's Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi this week stated that the vast majority of the torrents shared on its site are legal.

"He went on to suggest that the percentage of infringing content on The Pirate Bay is less than that found on YouTube," notes AfterDawn's Rich 'vurbal' Fiscus.

"During an internal investigation of 1,000 torrents, according to Sunde, around 80 percent of them were found to be legal," writes CD Freaks' Michael Hatamoto. "Both prosecutors and lawyers for copyright holders believe founders of the Pirate Bay knew copyrighted material was being shared, though one member said they were aware – but learned because copyright owners sent numerous letters to the organization. Sunde faces criminal charges related to copyright infringement alongside Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm, and Carl Lundström, who are the founders of the Pirate Bay."
