Fiber To Surpass Cable in 2010
According to 310 IQ Reports global telcos are projected to surpass cable operators in 2010 as the leading provider of broadband Internet into the home. At the time telcos and cable MSOs will serve over 800 million total households worldwide .

The primary driver in telco growth is increasing deployment of Fiber To The Home (FTTH), which is or will be offered by Verizon in the United States, NTT in Japan and France Telecom in Europe. Some telcos like AT&T in the U.S. are using Fiber To The Curb or VDSLlinks, which are not as fast as FTTH, but are 50% less expensive to install than FTTH.

The ultra-high bandwidth of these technologies will lead to ubiquitous Internet telephony, HDTV-quality TV, and plenty of P2P download and upload speed and capacity for TV streaming like Joost and gigabyte-sized file transfers.
