Techweb covers the digital music forumlinks West with "P2P Industry Networks For Legitimacy". Speakers reinforced the evidence that P2P network use continues to rise despite recording industry actions against both software developers and consumers. Speakers called for certification or permission-based authentication system for approved file sharing that would be interoperable with multiple platforms.

John Desmond, VP of MediaSentry Services said "We estimate there are 6 million users on BitTorrent at any one time, triple from about a year ago. You're also seeing a shift to open source and that would explain the rise in BitTorrent."
