Digital Freedom Launches
A new activist organization, Digital Freedom, has launched. The group has a strong pedigree in both the technology and consumer rights sectors with over 12 partners, including the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA), The Electronic Frontier Foundation, and the Independent Feature Project.

Its mission is "to fight against the big recording labels & studios who are trying to restrict individual rights to use new digital technologies." The group says "Consumers are willing to pay their fair share for the right to access music using new, cutting edge devices - but they shouldn't submit to being gouged by the big studios and record labels."

Right on. For now the group's activities are minimal. Web visitors can sign a petition, contact someone in Congress, or host a banner. One can only hope they get aggressive and fight the RIAA and MPAA, which have had little pushback from the tech industry.
