Dangerous DRM
Ed Felten digs in to find that RIAA supports future DRM that might "Threaten Critical Infrastructure and Potentially Endanger Lives" (words from the RIAA filing). This came in the context of filings for the U.S. copyright office's triennial DMCA exemption review. A few groups wanted to be able to legally remove DRM software that could could cause security or privacy harm. RIAA, MPAA, and others objected. They want the right to force permanent installation of DRM software even if dangerous.
How is that for arrogance? Do you think they learned anything after the Sony BMG rootkit disaster?
