P2P reputation schemes that rate files and users have been around for a while in both web (Bitzi) and software form. But they never became prevalent. Credence (news) has enough of the right pieces to crack this barrier.

  • High Value (USP): The need for protection is greater today than ever before with high bogus file rates causing real pain.

  • Effectiveness: Its sophisticated approach should (initially) minimize abuse and counter tactics.

  • Performance: Credence maintains historical data, necessary for P2P's transient nature.

  • Availability: It's open source. Hopefully we'll see Credence integrated in multiple clients, and other networks beyond Gnutella.
