Crack in Party line

Crack in Party line

The party is RIAA, not the Communists. Though they both were extremely powerful in their heyday.

Crack as in division, not a recreational drug. Though a few critics have long thought someone has been smoking something there for a long time.

RIAA CEO Mitch Bainwol said that illegal song-sharing has been "contained".

Albhy Galuten, VP at Sony, one of the four major labels that control RIAA, said that the music industry is not "winning the battle against pirating".

Take your pick. The number though agree with Albhy.

  1. Most of the changes sought by DoJ fall into two broad categories: (1) making it easier to convict people of criminal copyright infringement by eliminating the inconvenient necessity of proving that actual infringement took place; and (2) increasing the financial and penal penalties when someone is convicted.

  2. Bainwol claims that “file-trading is flat”. But the numbers are far from flat. Research firm Big Champagne measures the number of average P2P users online at any one time. There has been continued growth in P2P users. There were 8.7 million users in May 2005 and 9.7 million in May 2006, an increase of 12% in a year.

My Azureus version is showing me a 1,233,341 number of online users. The biggest number I’ve ever seen was something near 3 mil. I don’t know if it is the number of Azureus or p2p users but it is quite something. Global timing should have some importance.
