Yes, Virginia, there is legally free music you can download that is in the public domain. At least until Disney passes a new law that extends the copyright duration to 1,000 years.

Wikipedia has a nice offering of mostly classical music with a few older folk songs. Get the best of composers, including Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Handel, Bachlinks, Brahms, Beethoven, and Mozart.

This is perfect music to download and share on P2P networks.
