AT&T, the largest U.S. broadband Internet provider with 13 million customers, is deploying fiber to the home, which allows the company to expand its offerings from phone and Internet service to cable. They're working with the MPAA, Viacom, and other content companies. It's no coincidence that they've announced they'll be deploying anti-piracy technology.
So the next time you're evaluating an Internet service, there now is a new factor in selecting your ISP. Ask whether they monitor and filter how you use your Internet service. And make sure you get it in writing.

Doesn't this remove common carrier status from them? In that case are they not responsible for anything transmitted over their equipment?

What choice do I have now? We have cable which is soon to be Comcast. They are probably in bed with MPAA and RIAA as well. Or, I can stick with my AT&T DSL and not use P2P. This is what they want!! They already blocked my Shoutcast server port 8000. I got around it by using a different server port though. Screw you AT&T!!

I called ATT and regarding the monitoring, all they would do is refer me to http://edit.client.yahoo.com/cspcommon/static?page=tos
section 17. Which is them saying that for calling them and asking that they think they need to terminate my service.
Now my question, wouldnt monitoring slow down the lines? ANYTHING slows down the lines, ive noticed milliseconds shaved by bypassing routers alone.

So does this mean if I download anything copyrighted off of a P2P network, I`ll get caught?
