4. AnywhereCD 30 Cent MP3s
AnywhereCD introduced a novel digital music bundle that packages an album in both CD and open digital MP3 format for an average of $15. Customers who order the CD+MP3 combo are shipped the full CD with CD cases and liner notes and can immediately download CD tracks in MP3 format.
The new service is from digital music entrepreneur Michael Robertson, who founded MP3.com and then MP3tunes with 88 cent downloads and Oboe online music storage and streaming.
The AnywhereCD inventory is limited at this time. But it does include popular artists like Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, Prince, Josh Groban, Red Hot Chili Peppers, jerry lee lewis, and Tom Petty.
Innovation, you say? Not so fast, young whippersnapper. Warner Music says AnywhereCD violates its agreement to distribute its titles. They slapped a Cease & Desist order on the service to take down its content.
